Vacancies for voluntary roles

The NHS belongs to us all and we are committed to putting patients and communities at the heart of our work. We are the NHS organisation responsible for planning and buying health services for the people who live, work and visit our area – more than 480,000. That includes hospital services, community health services and mental health services.

We do not see patients as passive recipients of care but as people we want to engage in their own health, care and treatment. We are looking for people to bring the voice of our patients and our communities into our decision making. We have close to 20 public members or patient representatives who help us make sure the patient voice is at the heart of what we do.

These roles could include being involved in our local community networks or helping on specific project task and finish groups. For example we have public members for:

  • Online consultation,
  • NHS111 CAS, and
  • Sussex Peoples Panel

Did you know our health and social care partner organisations all have schemes and ways for you to keep in touch with the work they are doing:

Become a Digital Champion

As part of the East Sussex Digital Skills initiative we would like to invite interested members of Patient Participation Group’s (PPGs) and the general public to become Digital Champions for their GP practice. Digital Champions will take ownership of the Digital Skills promotion within their practice and, depending upon the needs of the practice, arrange suitable activities or promotional work as seen to be most effective for their patient population.

We would like Digital Champions to focus on access to digital health, through promotion of the NHS App, the NHS websites and also on GP Online Services subject to what is in place in your surgery.

Each Digital Champion will be offered training with East Sussex Libraries in order to be confident with the digital health solutions we are promoting.

A small grant of up to £500 is available to PPGs to support our vision of a digital NHS.

The funding is to support a nominated Digital Champion from your PPG to:

  • Promote digital tools and services such as the NHS App, and NHS websites

Dependent on decisions taken by the surgery and services currently in pace you might also be involved in:

  • Increase uptake of digital tools and services such as GP online services

  • Engage Consult for your registered population

Each PPG with a nominate Digital Champion will be provided with a loan of a tablet device for use in the practice only. This tablet will allow the Digital Champion to demonstrate the digital tools and services supporting health solutions.

Future plans

Digital First is a national NHS England programme and alongside Digital Skills, we have a number of sister projects that you may see in the next 12 months in addition to improving patient digital skills.

There will also be an opportunity to undertake further training if desired in digital skills across a range of standard applications such as email, word documents and internet use. This training will be optional – it is intended to encourage those who may not be digitally knowledgeable themselves to consider upskilling and improving in their own IT confidence before helping others to do the same.

We will also be offering Digital Skills training for our practice workforce through East Sussex College. We have also employed a Digital Clinical Lead (Dr Nick Harvey) to assist with clinical oversight on this.

Early adopters of the Digital Skills initiative will be encouraged to share their activities with other practices and PPG’s and we hope to allow access to their insight and experience as the project matures.
